Welcome to my Public Health Portfolio
About me
My name is Amanda Griggs and I am pursuing my Masters in Public Health at the University of West Florida (UWF). Hailing from a small town in southern New Jersey, I moved to South Florida in 2011 where I began my education in Public Health. In my undergraduate studies, i majored in Health Science. I found an interest and passion for mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation during my undergraduate studies and worked six years in the behavioral health industry in various positions. I gained a wealth of knowledge in understanding the mechanisms behind substance abuse and treatment guidelines. In addition, I have been trained in crisis intervention and care management. During my graduate studies I transitioned to public education as a teacher of core mathematics subjects as well as statistics. Working in a title 1 school with vulnerable children reinvigorated my public health goals of working with underserved populations. Additionally, I have found an increased interest in patient advocacy during my practicum experience with HQUIP
